It is my great pleasure to inform you that Professor Erik De Clercq, MD, from the Rega Institute of Biomedical Research at the Catholic University in Leuvan, Belgium, and Professor Antonin Holy, DSc, will be awarded an Honorary Doctor degree (Doctor honoris causa) in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. We appreciate very much Professor De Clercq´s teaching and research achievements both at our University and at the research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Dr. Erick De Clercq together with Dr. Antonín Holý from the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague, are recognized worldwide as scientists and inventors of renowned antiviral compounds, and thus we are grateful for their cooperation with us. They will both receive an Honorary Doctor degree at the historical ceremonial hall of the City Hall on June 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM.
